Which Sins do You Have to Repent of?
Which Sins Do You Have to Repent of to Be Saved?
For those who say you have to repent of your sins to be saved, my question would be this — which sins do you have to repent of to be saved?
Almost everybody would agree that we are not sinlessly perfect. We still commit sins. So the question becomes — which sins specifically did you have to turn from when you got saved? What people will usually do is highlight things that they themselves are not guilty of. For example, people who lived very rough and sinful lives before getting saved will often highlight things such as drinking, smoking, not going to church, fornication, or adultery. They decided to make a change in those areas and they say, see, you have to repent of your sins. But they are only going to highlight the things they have actually changed from. That same person could be very obese and clearly a glutton. That same person is obviously going to lie from time to time and struggle with pride and bitterness.
So which sins do you have to actually turn from? Because unless you believe you became sinlessly perfect the moment you believed on Christ, you obviously did not repent of all your sins. And if it is only some of your sins, which ones? Who decides which ones qualify?
The reality is you do not have to turn from any of your sins, because the Bible says "whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." All it comes down to is believing on Christ. You do not have to turn from your sins, make any changes, quit drinking, quit smoking, or quit any of your sins. All you have to do is believe on Christ.
